Fine motor activities are such an integral part of a child’s development. And luckily, there are so many activities that are FUN and contribute to fine motor development.
Last week we share our popsicle stick push and this week… BUTTON DROP!
Both of these activities use recycled items from our home. For the button drop, we used an old oat meal container with a slit and a pack of large buttons found at Joanns.
To start out the activity, I sat with Nora and walked her through putting the first few buttons in the jar. After 2 or three successful drops, I sat back and let her to the rest of the buttons on her own. Be sure to supervise your little one with small objects, like these buttons, at all times.
Another big perk about this activity is that it is so easy to store and can be used with a variety of materials. Don’t have buttons? You could use popsicle sticks, straws, pom pom’s, sugar packets… one mom on our instagram page commented that she did this activity with poker chips!
As Nora get’s a little older, this would be a great activity to integrate color matching as well- with one slot colored green and one slot colored red. For more fun activities to help your kiddo learn their colors, be sure to check out this post.
As always, if you plan to do this activity with your little one, we would love for you to share the pictures with us using the hashtag #LittleLearningClub.
