While most children may not be ready to write until the age of 6, the skills needed to write can begin developing as young as 2. According to The development of fine motor and handwriting skills written by Kristin L. Stooksberry, an occupational therapist, the prerequisites to handwriting include “small muscle deveoplment, hand-eye coordination, the ability to hold a writing utensil, the ability to smoothly form basic strokes such as circles and lines” and much more

So how exactly do we help our little ones gain these prerequistes to assist in developing the skills they need for handwriting? With some great activities that are so fun, they don’t even realize they are building essential skills!

Our pre-writing bundle is 22 pages long. It includes all the letter of the alphabet, both upper case and lower case, in traceable form. These pages can not only help with early handwriting skills, but can also help with letter recognition. For an extra fun activity, print out extra pages of the letters that make up your child’s name and paste them together. This is a great way to help them get an early start on writing our their name!

As with most of our worksheets, we opted to laminate them and complete them with a dry erase marker so they could be re-used in the future.

Would you just look at how proud she is of her work?! This might just be the biggest smile I’ve seen in quite some time!
