Being able to get your hands on a Nugget Couch is like the online version of Willy Wonkas Golden Ticket. I cannot even count the number of times I have set an alarm for a launch, added a couch to my cart, only to get to check out and find that my Nugget is sold out.
Now in Nuggets defense, they have made some BIG changes in the past months. They recently moved to a new warehouse that is going drastically increase the number of couches they can create and ship.
Most recently they announced they are going to be taking backorders. This meant that if I placed my order in December, I would be guaranteed to receive it by April. After over a year of trying to snag one of these couches, I jumped at this opportunity. But what if you don’t want to wait 3 months for delivery?
Luckily there are a few great alternatives out there to the Nugget Couch.
Nugget Couch Alternative #1: The Figgy
The Figgy is the closest alternative I could find to the Nugget. Much like the Nugget, The Figgy has two base cushions and two back pillows that give you endless opportunities to play. Many of the fun configurations you see with the Nugget can be created with the Figgy. A few key differences: the Figgy has velcro straps in all the right places to help those full forts you create actually stay in place. The Velcro is a new, patent pending design, that gives your cushions the ability to stick together without having any skin scratching effects. The Figgy also markets its colors as being more neutral tone as to blend in with your home better. They currently only offer 2 colors, grey and navy.
Another perk with the Figgy that I love- you can purchase additional wedge or block pillows separately. The Figgy retails for just slightly less than the Nugget making it a GREAT alternative!
Nugget Couch Alternative #2: The Crash Couch
The Crash Couch is a close second for best alternative to the Nugget. Size, pillow shapes and durability are all close in line with the Nugget. Bit differences: the Crash Couch runs about $100 more than the nugget and there are only two color options that are both a cow-print style. However, the Crash Couch could be in your home in as little as 7-10 days where as the Nugget may take 2+ months depending on which round of backorder you make it into.
Nugget Alternative #3: Jaxx Zipline
When it comes to cost, the Jaxx Zipline get’s first place. It retails for only $199 (and if you are a new customer at Buy Buy Baby you can sign up for a 20% off coupon!)
Besides the price, there is alot to love about this couch. While it is designed very differently than the Nugget, it still has the ability to transform from a couch to a lounger and even to a crash pad for those kids who just need to run and burn some energy!
Unlike the previous two alternatives, the Jaxx Zipline comes in a huge variety of colors.
Nugget Couch Alternative #4: The PlayScape
I’m convinced that you can find just about anything on Wayfair! A quick search for “kids modular couch” led me to The PlayScape. This is a GREAT alternative to the Nugget with very few differences. They have a huge variety of color options, the configuration of mats and pillows is almost identical, the material is machine washable. Biggest difference: It’s a bit pricier than the Nugget BUT it could be at your door in less than a week with Wayfair’s super fast shipping!
