Easy Home Made Play Dough Recipe

Play dough is a staple in our daily activities. Not only is it a great fine motor activity, but it is a great way for kids to build on their language skills, creativity and so much more.

We have been making our own play dough for a couple years. There are so many benefits to making it yourself! It’s very inexpensive, it lasts for such a long time (if stored properly) and this recipe makes ALOT!

Home Made Play Dough Recipe

-2 cups all-purpose flour

-3/4 cup salt

-4 teaspoons cream of tartar

-2 cups lukewarm water

-2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil

Start by mixing your dry ingredients together in a medium sized sauce pan. Once well mixed, add in water and oil. Heat over medium heat, stirring continuously. You will begin to see the liquid consistency turn to more of a dough like consistency.

Important side note: you can overcook this! Remove the pan from heat as soon as you see that it is a dough like consistency. Overcooking will make it dry and crumbly.

Storing your Play Dough

The best way to store your home made play dough is wrapped in plastic wrap and stored in an air tight container. We have been able to keep our play dough fresh for over a month when stored properly.
