Simple 2 Ingredient Slime

I don’t know how it happened, but some how my four year old heard about slime and came home asking to make it. I had tried to put it off as long as I could. I had heard a good amount of slime horror stories from other mothers, but here were. We were on a mission to make slime.

With little sister still being at the age where she will put things in her mouth out of sheer curiosity, I decided I wanted to make a slime recipe that did not include any of the scary ingredients (glue, borax, contact solution). And we found it!

Who on earth would have every guessed that the same kind of fiber that helps with digestive issues can also make a safe sensory activity?!

You read that right- the main ingredient in this recipe is Psyllium Husk Powder. A common form of this is Metamucil, which you can buy at any grocery store. Unfortunately we were only able to find orange flavored Metamucil which would have given us orange slime (which would have been fine but we wanted the option to make a ton of colors). So we found a less common brand and did the job just great!

Here’s How to Make Slime without Glue or Borax

-1 Tablespoon Psyllium Husk (look in the fiber supplement section at your grocery store)

-3/4 cup water (with or without food coloring)

Directions:

Add both ingredients to a microwave safe bowl and mix well.

Microwave for 4-5 minutes, ensuring it does not boil over. Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave and stir. It will not be slime right out of the microwave, but once you give it a good stir, it will thicken up.

Ensure your slime is completely cool before allowing your kiddo to play with it!

A quick side note as well: depending on what type of fiber you purchase, it may also have a terrible smell as it heats. No worries, this will go away as the slime cools down.

Enjoy!
