Cake Dough Recipe
We are fans of all sorts of dough in our home, moon dough, homemade play dough, moon sand (I consider this somewhat of a dough) but I have to say that “Cake Dough” may be our new favorite. Not only is it easy to make, the colors are vibrant, the smell is delightful (which is why we call is cake dough, it smells just like a vanilla cupcake!) and the feel is so different than any other dough we’ve made.
Is Cake Dough Taste Safe?
Cake dough is made of just two ingredients: store bought icing and corn starch. This makes cake dough taste safe for little ones but I would definitely not encourage them to eat it! The icing contains high amounts of sugar, food coloring and other things that might not be best for little tummy’s.
How to Make Cake Dough
Cake Dough recipe is easy to make! Start with one cup of icing in a medium sized mixing bowl. I like to buy icing that is already colored in order to save myself a step. Add 3/4 a cup of corn starch on top on begin folding the icing over the corn starch. Add small amounts of corn starch to any sticky spots you see or feel. Continue working the mixture in the bowl until it has lost most of its stickiness, then move to kneading it in your hands. Keep on mixing until it has a tougher feel to it.
We have stored out cake dough wrapped in Saran Wrap and then in an airtight container. This has kept It fresh and soft for close to three weeks!
