Baby #2 will be here in less than 4 weeks! With my first baby, I spent this time sanitizing and organizing and overanalyzing every details about every aspect of having a newborn.
This time around, I’ve got my toddler to think about too! I want to ensure we have a large rolodex of options to choose from when it comes to daily activities.
We tested out some fun indoor activities last week and are definitely plan to do the edible finger paint activity once it get’s warmer out!
These activity bins are intended to be “busy” bins that are filled with items that will keep little ones captivated for some time.
Just to be clear, I do not leave my toddler unsupervised when playing with these bins. They contain small parts that could be hazardous. While the bins keep her occupied, I am usually there with her playing and exploring the bins contents.
I purchased the shoe box size bins for $.97 a piece at Wal-mart and just printed out the day labels at home.
When it came to selecting items to put in the bins, I based it off of what I knew Emmy loved to play with. For example, she loves taking all the cards out of my husbands wallet, so we found an old wallet, filled it with some of my business cards and put it in one of the bins.
She also loves these small books we bought in a carrying pack. We divided them up and put 2 or 3 books in each bin.
We put old cell phones, small calculators, pom poms and toilet paper rolls (for this activity), party horns… a wide assortment of just random stuff!
We recently added out fundamental flashcards to our bins as well! They cover colors, shapes, and 50+ first words. You can grab a copy in our printable shop.
These flashcards are not only great for the activity bins, but they are great for travel as well. They’ve come on road trips and long flights with us as well. They are a great educational way to keep your toddler entertained.
I did include the card drop, straw and noodle, painting with water and fridge magnet activity supply in each bin. These are all great activities to promote fine motor growth.
