Sharing is caring!

I know I cannot be the only one out there with a toddler who LOVES to use their scissors… I can hand Emmy a large piece fo construction paper and her training scissors and she can keep herself entertained for at least 15 minutes.

If you don’t have a pair of training scissors for your toddler, you can grab them here!

When it comes to introducing scissors, this typically begins around 3 years old. When we purchased Emmy’s first pair of training scissors, the activities were exactly as explained above; I simply gave her a piece of paper and let her get familiar with the hand motions needed to work the tool.

Once she had the hand of that, we were ready for some new challenges. That’s where the Cutting Busy Box came into play. As usual, I started to look for inspiration on Pinterest (be sure to follow us here), and came across A Crafty Living’s post on how she created a box for her son. I loved the idea and knew Emmy would be so entertained by it!

I purchased the box to hold all of the materials from Amazon and filled it with all the items shown above. I also decided to add a hole punch and a few cutting pieces dedicated to lining up the hole bunch over the dots.

Now this is just our first round of items for our busy box. Once she goes through it all, I’ve got a list of new items I want to add to it. All of these items will simply provide more fun ways to use her scissors and keep the activity new and exciting

-Straws

-Toilet paper rolls

-Paint Swatched from the Home Improvement store

-Feathers

-Sponges (the ones from the dollar store are thin enough to cut with training scissors!)

I can’t wait to share more photos of Emmy and her cutting busy box in action. Be sure to follow us on Instagram!
