Valentine’s Themed Crafts and Activities for Toddlers

We love to celebrate Valentine’s Day in our household! From February first through the fourteenth, we are all things hearts and love! Today I am sharing some of our favorite Valentine’s Day crafts and activities for preschoolers and toddlers!

Here’s a list of the supplies we used to create all of these crafts and activities:

-Washable Paint (we have always used Crayola Washables)

-Construction paper, variety of color

-Googley Eyes

-Canvas (you can buy a 2 pack at the Dollar Store in the craft section!)

-Toilet Paper Rolls

-Popsicle Sticks

-Tape/Glue

Valentines Number Hunt

We did a similar activity to this one back in December and it was such a hit! I knew I had to repeat it. This time we opted to do a number hunt instead of an alphabet hunt. Both Emmy (4.5 years old) and Nora (3 years old) enjoyed this activity. After 3 rounds of my hiding the numbers and them running off to find them, we switched to the girls taking turns hiding the numbers for each other. They had just as much fun looking for creative hiding spaces as they did hunting for the hearts.

Handprint Love Bug

We found this craft from Crafty Morning on Pinterest and just knew we had to replicate It! We opted to cut it out and put it onto a popsicle stick to make it more like a puppet. The girls flew them around the house for hours! I would definitely recommend some very strong tape or glue for the wings!

Heart Art

This art project was so simple to set up yet it kept Nora entertained for so long. I simply tapped a foam heart onto the canvas, attached some pom-poms to the end of clothes pins and poured out some paint. As I mentioned above, we buy these thin canvases from The Dollar Store! We stock up on them about once a year and they hold up great!

Sticker Name Art

You can name any holiday over the past 6 months and I can almost guarantee you we have done sticker name art to celebrate! I simply order a pack of themed stickers, draw or paint their name onto a large sheet of paper (but a regular sized construction paper sheet would work just as great), and let my toddler get to work! I tell her that her mission is to fill all the letters of her name with stickers. A great tip for when your toddler is working with a sheet of stickers: remove the backing to the sheet. It makes it much easier for their little fingers to get the stickers off.

Puppy Love Puppets

After the success of the love bug “puppets” I knew we wanted to make more little animals for the girls to play with. This one was inspired by Artsy Mom. She used a paper plate to create her puppy and it turned out so cute! As you can probably tell by all of our other crafts, we bought a 36-pack of foam hearts from Joann’s and they made a great base for a ton of projects. Here’s the link to the hearts!

Toilet Paper Roll Heart Art

We love crafts that utilize recycled materials! For this craft, you simply fold a toilet paper roll to mimic the shape of a heart and use tape to hold it into place. We used our Crayola Washable paint and a sheet of construction paper.

Valentine’s Kissy Fish Puppet

When I find a craft that really entertains my kids, I run with it! I’m sure you can tell by now that these crafty little puppets were the highlight of the Valentine’s season!

Free Valentines’s Coloring Pages

Last week we shared 6 FREE Valentine’s coloring pages! Not only are these a great activity, but they also doubles as Valentine’s your kids could give to family members or friends. We mailed off the girls completed art work to family members and the process of putting on the stamp, taking it to the mailbox, and putting up the flag was such a treat for them! You can download the free printables here.

Paper Heart Wreath

This is one that Emmy and I made together! I cut out all of the hearts and the center of the paper plate before we sat down to start. This one doubled as an educational activity with the pattern concept. Once Emmy had worked out the pattern and how she wanted it to look, she put herself in charge of the glue and I was in charge of placing each heart where it belonged. It was a fun activity that also doubles as Valentine’s Decor!
